Kotoko steps up preparation for the President’s Cup
Posted on: Fri Jun 15, 2012
Players and members of the Technical Team have since last Thursday stepped up their preparation to wait for the opponent who will finally be named to face them in the President’s Cup, scheduled for Accra on Republic Day, 1July 2012.
From day one of the team’s resumption from their short break after the season was brought to an end, they have been training under the tutelage and guidance of Reserved Team coach, Henry Wellington and it has not been an issue of merry making or being lazy on the field.
Since last week, training regime has been a blend of physicals and ball work, all aimed at getting the team in the right and acceptable shape before their July 1st date.
All players have been working hard at training as they seek to get in full fitness for the assignments lined up for the club in the coming months.
Speaking to Coach Henry Wellington after training last Wednesday, he confirmed Kotoko Express’ observation of his emphasis on physicals at training and offered an explanation for it.
“It is a good observation and I am very much in full control of what you have observed. You will realize that the team went on break after the league and so it is technically important that on resumption, we take them through exercises to first heat them into match mentality and secondly bring their conditioning to acceptable levels”.
“You will realize that on the first two days of training, some of the players were a bit slow, but they have come up over time and it is my hope that they will be very high on their preparation”.
“Fortunately, the players are living up to our expectations of them and so they did not over-indulge themselves during the break and so their response to instructions has been encouraging. They have been responding well to training and instructions”
Though Coach Wellington is at the front line doing the work, he says he is doing everything in concert with Head Coach, Maxwell Konadu, who will assume duty on Friday after a Senior National Team assignment.
“I have been having technical conferences with Coach Maxwell on the phone and we all have been planning our program for the team”.
“What we are doing is to get the team ready to achieve two important motives. First for the President’s Cup and secondly to be ready for the Invitational Tournament to be hosted in South Africa”.
“With the way we have started the preparations, I am sure the team would be match ready when we need them to for the assignments,” he added .
