Burkina FA re-calls Soulama into their National team

Posted on: Wed May 02, 2012

The sterling performance of Kotoko goalkeeper, Soulama Abdoulaye has attracted positive response from his country’s Football Association who have written to the club requesting the services of the experienced goalkeeper, first for a friendly international match against Benin on May 26 in Ouagadougou and secondly and most importantly too for the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Congo and Gabon on June 2 and 7 respectively.

The Burkina Faso FA in its letter dated April 23, 2012, and signed by their secretary, Seydou Coullibaly wants the Kotoko goal tender to be back home by May 16, 2012.

Even though Soulama Abdoulaye has not been in the post for Kotoko in two Glo Premier League matches, (Mighty Jets-Kotoko in Accra and Kotoko-Berekum Arsenal in Kumasi), he currently remains the club’s number one goalie, having kept the post in more than 20 league matches.

When contacted for comments Soulama Abdoulaye said he would grant an extensive interview to Kotoko Express when he returns from the national team assignment.

Soulama, before coming to Kotoko in the 2007/2008 season, was an integral part of the Burkina Faso national senior team, the Stallions.

His winning of the Best Goalkeeper Award in Ghana 2007/2008 season, kept him in the good books of the Stallions’ coach but a subsequent nagging injury which led to a sharp decline in his performance two seasons on, kept him out of the team.
