Asante Kotoko were beaten by league leaders Ashgold 2-0 in a difficult away game. Ashgold gained all three points through two quick goals in the 73rd and 75th minutes. The result meant Ashgold remained unbeaten and now have 13 points; four more than their closest contender.

Ashgold started the game well and probed Kotoko early for the opener, but Felix Annan was equal to the task. He claimed the long balls well and comfortably got behind three early shots. Kotoko then started to force their way into the game with some decent possession.

Ashgold had a penalty call dismissed in the 22nd minute after referee Adjogu judged Shafiu Mumuni to have dived out of a bare contact with Felix Annan. The Ashgold attacker was shown a yellow card for his deception.

Mawuli Osei also got his name in the referee's book when he was deemed to have led with his elbow in an aerial duel. The game continued with lots of midfield action one of which saw Joseph Gordon also get booked, in the 38th minute for a poor challenge.

Coach Fabin was forced into a first half substitution when Daniel Darkwah got injured on the 40th minute mark. Kotoko, with its mounting injury list had to improvise to get Akwasi Nti at right back with Augustine Sefa switching to fill in for Darkwa at the left back position. The first half ended goalless.

Six minutes into the second half, Obed Owusu came on for Seth Opare and joined forces with Mawuli Osei upfront. Osei came close to an opener when his header to Akwasi Nti's measured cross flew past the goal post.

On the 57th minute mark, Jordan Opoku also got booked for a bad challenge. In the 69th minute, Frank Sarfo Gyamfi forced Owu out of his post with an attempted lob which nearly wrecked havoc had Mawuli Osei not fail to capitalise on a miscommunication between Samed Ibrahim and George Owu.

Ashgold won a corner in the 73rd minute, the ensuing cross from which was nodded in by Samed Ibrahim met to put the home side ahead.

Kotoko couldn't get over the shock of conceding before the miners doubled the tally only two minutes later through Shafiu Mumuni. Appiah McCarthy weaved his way through the Kotoko defence and neatly set up Shafiu who found the bottom left corner.

Emmanuel Gyamfi was booked for a poor tackle on James Akaminko and was replaced by Prince Acquah three minutes later.

Kotoko huffed and puffed in the last few minutes but to no avail.
