Michael Abu

Michael Abu not scared of competition

Posted on: Tue Apr 10, 2018 - Report by Gideon Boakye Botwe

Newly-signed goalkeeper Michael Abu insists he is not panic-stricken by the competition for Kotoko's number one spot.

The well-built goalkeeper has alluded to the depth of talents at the goalkeeping department, but nonetheless tells he expects to have playing time at the club.

Michael Abu joined the Porcupines from coastal city club Ebusua Dwarfs this preseason and would be competing for the number one slot with old guards Felix Annan and Danlad Ibrahim and fellow newcomer Emmanuel Osei Kwame.

"I am not afraid of competition", he said. "I knew I was walking into a bigger challenge when I opted to join Kotoko. Felix , Danlad and Osei Kwame are all top goalkeepers, but I was bought here because the handlers know that I also have qualities to win the slot."

Michael Abu played 22 Premier League games for Ebusua Dwarfs last season with the well-travelled, veteran and former Black Stars goalkeeper George Owu as his deputy. With that feat in his cap, the goalie insists 'he is not new to competition.'

"At Ebusua Dwarfs, I kept the post a lot of times ahead of George Owu. Getting the nod ahead of him didn't come easy. Competing for places in itself isn't new to me though I admit that this one is a bit difficult. It's a long season and every goalkeeper would have his time. I have to make myself ready at all times so that I can show my worth when my time comes."
