Victory on sunday will be a fitting end to the season – Steve Polack

Head coach of Asante Kotoko, Steve Polack says he is going to be setting out his team to wrestle nothing but a victory from Accra Hearts of Oak when they meet on Sunday for this season’s MTN FA Cup final in Tamale.

The Porcupine Warriors set up a date with their territorial arch-rivals after seeing off a challenge by Medeama SC in the semifinals of the competition earlier this month.

The Red's coach was however quick to water down the excitement amongst the fans and points out that a victory against the Rainbow boys, though deeply satisfying in itself, will only be the bare minimum required of his team after a somewhat unsatisfactory premier league season.

“…[victory on Sunday] will be a failure because we’ve actually won the FA Cup but we haven’t actually done well in the league. After [that] we have to analyze where we did we go wrong [in the season] and how can we improve it,” said Steve Polack at the MTN FA Cup final press briefing.

In acknowledging the importance fans of Asante Kotoko attach to games against Accra Hearts of Oak and the insistence of the Porcupine family to get one over their bitter rivals, the coach remained quite measured in his assumptions.

Explaining that, the “Unmissable” game on Sunday will be a unique test, not like what had been played previously and that Sunday’s game is “a different game to what it was four months ago” but “I am here, with my staff to innovate, motivate the players for the game on Sunday... and I believe that we will do that especially with the supporters that we have also.”

“When the game comes on Sunday, by 7pm by God’s Grace, we will be victorious," he added.

“As I said, it hasn’t been the best season but we want to finish on a high. And that means we are going all out to win the cup” he concluded.
