Amos Frimpong scored neatly from the penalty spot to give Kotoko a deserved 1-0 victory over Wassaman United in Sunday’s FA Cup 1/16th stage match at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Yakubu Mohammed was fouled in the box by defender Lateef Mohammed and the referee, who was right at the spot, wasted no time to award Kotoko a penalty kick.

Captain Amos Frimpong calmly picked the ball and expertly put it at the lower right corner of the net to give the Porcupine Warriors the lead after 36 minutes. No goal was scored in the game after that. The victory automatically earned Kotoko a quarterfinal ticket.

Coach Steven Polack’s team would however have to improve especially upfront as they progress in the competition. Kotoko could have buried Wassaman United under a heavy number of goals if they had utilised the decent chances they created.

Yakubu Mohammed, Abass Mohammed and Baba Mahama took turns in the early minutes of the first half to miss glorious chances which could have handed Kotoko not less than a five-goal lead by the end of the first 45 minutes. The three attackers however missed all scoring opportunities that came their way to the disappointment of the fans.

Full match report follows soon.
