FA Cup: Kotoko to charge on Wassaman

Posted on: Sun Jun 18, 2017 - Report by Gideon Boakye Botwe

Kotoko have a chance of redemption at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday as they host Wassaman United in an MTN FA Cup 1/16 stage match. The Porcupines head into the knockout duel expecting nothing but victory which is the only thing that would ensure progression to quarterfinal stage of the 2017 campaign.

A win on penalties against Bekwai Youth Academy at Bekwai and Proud United at Swedru led the Porcupines to this stage and another victory is what the fans expected. Sunday's duel marks the first time the Porcupines will be playing at home in this year’s competition. This home venue has been where they haven't won since they beat WAFA in the Premier League in March.

Leading this charge is Coach Steven Polack whose is steadily reviving the fortunes of the team. Polack would be making his second appearance in Kumasi and the fans expect to see a win having already drawn 1-1 in his maiden appearance against Great Olympics two weeks ago in a Premier League game.

Wassaman won't be pushovers despite being a relatively smaller club. For a competition known for upsets, it is imperative that Kotoko are wary of them. Saddick Adams is out of the game having been given some days rest to recuperate fully from an ankle injury picked up against Aduana Stars last Monday.

Jackson Owusu will also miss the match due to his red card suspension but Steven Polack still has worthy replacements. Any team he puts up will not be a weakened side. The significance of victory should however not be lost on either coach or the players he would field. Kotoko are favourites to win the match. They must make use of every chance they have to be victorious.
