FA Cup: Kotoko face Wassaman on June 18

The search for glory in the MTN FA Cup will continue on June 18, 2017, when the team welcomes lower division side, Wassaman to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The draw for matches in the 1/16th stage of the prestigious cup competition was held in Accra this week.

The Porcupines were pitched against the Western Regional side, who last played Kotoko in a competitive match more three years ago in the league. The game will be the first for the fabulous lads at home since this season’s FA Cup commenced. Kotoko played Bekwai Youth Academy at Bekwai in the Round of 64 stage of the competition in April.

After drawing 1-1 in regulation time, Kotoko, then under Coach Frimpong Manso and his Assistant, Godwin Ablordey, proceeded to edge out the academy side 3-1 on penalties.

Another pairing with a lower division side in the next round sent Kotoko to Swedru in the Central Region, where they engaged Proud United.

The grudge encounter saw the Porcupines winning 1-0 to make it to the present stage. Wassaman must be eliminated in a little over two weeks’ time to continue the progress.

Kotoko must win to further keep the dream of winning the competition alive. With the fine start in the second round of the league, the team could be in a much better shape when this game comes off.

Kotoko experienced difficult times in the latter stages of the league’s first round as they couldn’t win in as many as eight matches. That streak ended at Tema last Sunday where they beat Tema Youth 1-0. The team’s next game is at home to Great Olympics this weekend and victory over them will certainly prepare them well for upcoming matches – not least the date with Wassaman.
