The team drew goalless with Tema Youth.

Report: Kotoko draw at home to end first round

Posted on: Sun May 14, 2017 - Report by Jerome Otchere

Kotoko earned a point on the final day of the league’s first round as they drew goalless against Tema Youth at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday. The Porcupines went into the match hopeful of victory to end their winless streak in seven matches. That didn’t materialise.

The team pushed hard for goals but their effort proved futile as they squandered chances especially in the latter parts of the game. The barren result nonetheless ensured the team’s small movement on the table from 8th to 7th position with 21 points.

The last time Kotoko won a league match was when we welcomed WAFA to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on March 15, 2017. The team lost 1-0 to Hearts under controversial circumstances in Accra on match day eight and drew goalless at home to Inter Allies before losing 2-1 away to Medeama.

Another draw at home to Ebusua Dwarfs saw the club parting ways with former coach, Zdravko Logarusic. The winless run painfully continued with a 1-0 away loss to Wa All Stars before the 1-1 home draw with Aduana Stars. The 2-0 defeat to Olympics in Accra shattered hopes of a revival in Accra and in Kumasi on Sunday a win was  expected but the game ended goalless.

With the signing of new coach, Steven Polack, that the team’s fortunes will surely improve in the second round. Coach Steven Polack besides working on the players’ confidence has to find an antidote to the low scoring rate.
